President, Chief Executive Officer and Director
Derek joined us in May 2009 and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in September of 2009. Derek brings over 32 years of experience in the energy sector in Western Canada having spent the majority of his career with Renaissance Energy Limited in a variety of operational and management positions, the last being Senior Vice President of Operations. He served as President, CEO and director of Focus Energy Trust from May 2002 until March 2008.
Derek holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta.
Chief Financial Officer
Chris joined us in 2000 and was appointed Treasurer in 2001. In March 2005, Chris was appointed Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining us, he held a variety of progressively senior accounting and finance positions within the petroleum industry.
Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Concordia University, and holds both the Certified General Accountant (CGA) and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.
Vice President and Controller
Doug joined us in April 2005. Doug has over 25 years of accounting and finance experience, including 11 years with ExxonMobil Canada where he held the position of Financial Reporting Manager. Prior to ExxonMobil, Doug spent seven years with KPMG as a senior manager.
Doug holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting and Finance Major from McMaster University. Doug earned his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1989.
Steve De Maio
Senior Vice President, Thermal Operations
Steve joined us in September 2010 and has over 22 years of progressive heavy oil senior leadership experience dedicated to key areas of In-Situ and Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) engineering, regulatory and environmental management and multi-pad drilling.
Prior to joining us, Steve held the position of Vice President of Project Development with Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. and was responsible for the Algar SAGD Project. He also worked with Deer Creek Energy Limited as a Project Manager on the surface facilities of the Joslyn SAGD project and was the founder and former President of Efficient Energy Resources Ltd., a private alternate energy provider.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary.
Vice President, Human Resources
Dave joined us in April 2016 as our Vice President, Human Resources. Dave brings over 20 years of human resource experience in the manufacturing, supply chain and beverage sectors. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Dave held positions as Principal with Ener-G HR Consulting Ltd and Vice President, Human Resources with The Beer Store and Brewers Distributor Ltd. Dave brings a wide variety of expertise to the leadership table, with particular strengths in human resources strategy, innovative problem solving, relationship building and communication.
Dave holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). He is an active Board member for Carya (formerly Calgary Family Services Society).
Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary
Andrew joined us in September 2010. Andrew has broad experience in securities law, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance, and brings a strong business understanding of oil and gas transactions.
He received his B.Comm. (Accounting) from the University of Calgary in 1987 and his MBA and LLB from Dalhousie University in 1991. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Andrew worked with the law firm McCarthy Tetrault which he joined in 1991 and became a partner of in 1999.
Andrew is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of England and Wales and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and ICD.D designations.
Senior Vice President, Conventional Operations
Randy joined us in 1998 with the initial purchase of the Swan Hills assets from Imperial Oil. Randy has over 27 years of oil and gas experience, primarily with Imperial Oil and Pengrowth, where he held several key positions with increasing responsibility in operations and leadership including Production Operations Manager, Lindbergh Pilot Project Manager, Health & Safety Manager, Swan Hills General Manager, and most recently Conventional Operations General Manager.
Randy has broad experience in production operations, maintenance management, capital projects, as well as Health, Safety & Environment management activities with a track record of building strong HSE cultures.
Randy holds a Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, a Journeyman Instrument Mechanic Certificate, a Certificate in Management Development from the University of Alberta, and a Certificate of Excellence in Leadership from the Banff Center.
