President and Chief Executive Officer

Derek Evans joined Pengrowth in May 2009 and became President and Chief Executive Officer in September of 2009.    Derek brought over 26 years of experience in the energy sector in Western Canada having spent the majority of his career with Renaissance Energy Limited in a variety of operational and management positions the last being Senior Vice President of Operations.  He served as President, CEO and director of Focus Energy Trust from May 2002 until March 2008. 

Derek holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from Queen's University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta.

At present he also serves as a director of Franco-Nevada Corporation, a Toronto Stock Exchange listed issuer, as well as a private oil and gas company, and one not for profit organization. He is also a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Vice President, Exploration

David Allen joined Pengrowth in April 2012. Prior to joining Pengrowth, David had an extensive background in the oil and gas industry dating back to 1986 with experience working in a variety of disciplines, with increasing responsibility. David began his career with Esso Resources Canada and has held the positions of Vice President of Exploration, Exploration Manager, Senior Technical Advisor, and Senior Geologist. Included in the group of companies David has worked with are Startech Energy Inc., Impact Energy Inc., Thunder Energy Inc., Alberta Clipper Energy Inc., and most recently NAL Resources where he was Director, Exploration & Development

Mr. Allen holds a Masters of Science in Geology from the University of British Columbia.

Vice President Human Resources

Gillian Basford joined Pengrowth in January 2011. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Gillian has previously held positions at Enmax, CE Franklin Ltd, Transalta Utilities Corporation and Marktrend Marketing Research. Gillian has also led organizational change management for a major project as a consultant for Westjet.

Gillian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Education in Psychology from the University of Calgary.

Gillian currently chairs the Board of Directors for the Calgary Couselling Centre

Vice President and Controller

Doug Bowles joined Pengrowth in March 2006.  Doug brought  over 20 years of accounting experience, including 11 years with ExxonMobil Canada where he held the position of Financial Reporting Manager. Prior to ExxonMobil, Doug spent seven years with KPMG Peat Marwick Thorne as a senior manager. 

He is a graduate of McMaster University and has a Bachelor of Commerce, Honours, Accounting and Finance Major. He received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1989.

Senior Vice President, Operations & Engineering

Jim Causgrove joined Pengrowth and was appointed Vice-President, Production and Operations in 2005.  Jim Causgrove has over 30 years of experience with Chevron, where he most recently held the position of Manager, New Growth Opportunities Group and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Central Alberta Midstream.
Jim has a broad operational background in drilling, production engineering and midstream areas across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin as well as significant experience in the property divestiture market and the analysis of potential corporate and acquisitions and divestitures, including the sale of Central Alberta Midstream.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a registered professional engineer.

Vice President, In-Situ Development & Operations

Steve De Maio Joined Pengrowth in September of 2010 and brings more than 18 years of progressive heavy oil senior leadership experience dedicated to key areas of In-Situ and Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) engineering, regulatory and environmental management and multi-pad drilling.

Prior to joining Pengrowth, Steve served at Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. as the Vice President of Project Development for the Algar SAGD Project. He also worked with Deer Creek Energy Limited as a Project Manager on the surface facilities of the Joslyn SAGD project and is the founder and former of President of Efficient Energy Resources Ltd., a small alternate energy provider.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary.

Treasurer

Dean Evans joined Pengrowth in February 2009 as Treasurer. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Dean spent 9 years with ARC Energy Trust in a variety of progressively senior finance positions including his promotion to the position of Treasury Manager in 2008.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from The University of Alberta and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Andrew Grasby joined Pengrowth in September 2010 and has broad experience in securities law, governance, and brings a strong business understanding of oil and gas transactions.

He received his B.Comm. (Accounting) from the University of Calgary in 1987 and his MBA and LLB from Dalhousie University in 1991. Mr. Grasby completed his articling at McCarthy Tetrault in 1991 and became a partner in 1999. In addition to his LLB and MBA degrees, Mr. Grasby is also a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, which he was awarded in 1996.

Andrew is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of England and Wales and the CFA Institute.

Director of East Coast Operations

Jim MacDonald joined Pengrowth in September 2002 to manage Pengrowth's interest in the Sable Offshore Energy Project with over 26 years experience working in all aspects of oil and gas exploration and development. Jim joined Nova Scotia Resources Limited (NSRL) as Engineering Manager in 1990 and became the General Manager in 1995 and was responsible for engineering, production, marketing and financial activities including the sale of NSRL.

Jim holds a B.SC and B. Eng from Dalhousie University.

Chief Operating Officer

Marlon McDougall joined Pengrowth in August 2011. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Marlon had an extensive background in the oil and gas industry with over thirty years of experience working in a variety of engineering disciplines, with increasing responsibility in operations and leadership positions in medium and large E&P organizations. His most recent roles have been Chief Operating Officer for an intermediate E&P company, and as a senior operations executive at Northrock Resources Ltd.

Mr. McDougall holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and a Petroleum Technology Certificate in Production from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Executive Vice President, Business Development

Bob Rosine joined Pengrowth in March of 2010 as the Executive Vice President of Business Development and is responsible for the business development activities of Pengrowth, including the identification and execution of acquisitions.

He has over 27 years of experience in the energy sector in various executive management and engineering capacities with both private and public oil and gas companies. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Bob was President of a private oil and gas company. He also served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development with Highpine Oil & Gas Limited, was Co-founder, President and CEO of White Fire Energy Ltd. and Chief Operating Officer of Lightning Energy Ltd.

Bob received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Alberta in 1977. Mr. Rosine is also a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Chief Financial Officer

Chris Webster joined Pengrowth in 2000, was appointed Treasurer in 2001 and in March 2005 was appointed to the position of Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Pengrowth, he held a variety of progressively senior accounting and finance positions within the petroleum industry.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Concordia University, and holds both the Certified General Accountant and the Chartered Financial Analyst designations.

He currently is the Chairman of ATB Investment Management Inc.’s Independent Review Committee and has past experience as a board member and chair of the audit committee of a public oil and gas company
