YWCA Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

Team Pengrowth was proud to take home both the "Top Team" and "Top Individual" trophies at the 2011 "YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES" event last September.
Pengrowth's team of seven men (including some brave members of our Leadership Team) walked around Olympic Plaza in high heels to raise money and awareness for women who are taking steps to walk away from domestic violence. Between the team's fundraising efforts and a corporate match from Pengrowth, Team Pengrowth raised more than $100,000 for the YWCA.
Family violence is the single largest woman’s health issue in Canada, and Alberta has one of the highest reported rate of family violence in the country. In 2008 alone, the Calgary Police Service responded to 13,496 calls related to family violence, an increase of 8% from 2007.
But these numbers only reflect those who have spoken out. Many women do not report violence because they fear increased abuse, losing their children, risking embarrassment and shame, and facing homelessness and financial instability.
